## Natural stone. Individual by nature.

Marble forms when limestone or dolostone is transformed by geological heat and pressure. Its crystalline texture and natural veins make each slab distinctive. Marble is also sensitive to acids, and its finish can change with use.

Compare the actual slabs, finish, and care expectations before choosing. Brown Fantasy is commonly sold as marble or dolomitic stone; a trade name alone does not establish the composition or performance of a particular slab.

01

### Natural individuality

View the actual slab before selecting. A small sample cannot show the full composition.

02

### A living finish

Choose marble with an understanding of etching, scratches, and patina. Discuss how you use your kitchen and the finish you prefer.

03

### Care matched to the stone

Sealing may reduce absorption-related staining. It does not prevent acid etching. Ask for care guidance for the specific stone.

## Marble, quartz, or quartzite?

Marble and quartzite are natural stone categories. Countertop quartz is an engineered surface. Compare the actual slab or product, its finish, and its care guide.

| What to compare | Natural marble | Engineered quartz | Natural quartzite |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Origin | Natural carbonate rock transformed by geological heat and pressure. | Manufactured mineral particles, binders, and pigments. | Natural rock formed by the transformation of quartz-rich sandstone. |
| Appearance | Natural veins and color variation; the finish develops with use. | Designed patterns that vary by brand and collection. | Natural veins and mineral movement; choose the actual slab. |
| Sealing | Depends on the stone and treatments; ask for guidance. | Generally not needed; follow the manufacturer’s care guide. | Depends on absorption, finish, and treatments. |
| Acid sensitivity | Acids can etch the surface; sealing does not prevent it. | Follow the product-specific guide; harsh chemicals can damage it. | Confirm the actual stone and any treatments with your supplier. |
| Daily care | Gentle cleaning, prompt spill cleanup, boards and trivets. | Follow brand instructions; protect from direct heat. | Gentle cleaning, prompt spill cleanup, boards and trivets. |

A little geology, a lot of character

## A closer look at marble.

A geological transformation

### Heat changes the texture.

Marble develops when carbonate rock recrystallizes under heat and pressure. Different mineral mixtures contribute to its range of colors and patterns.

Two different changes

### Etching is not staining.

An etch is a chemical change to the surface, often seen as a dull spot. A stain involves discoloration from absorbed substances. The appropriate response differs.

Finish and time

### Patina is part of the choice.

Everyday use can leave marks and soften the appearance of the finish. Decide whether you welcome that evolving character before selecting marble for a busy space.

Everyday living

## Beautiful stone. Practical habits.

A care plan should fit the specific slab, finish, and any treatments. Ask for written care instructions before installation.

1. ### Clean gently.

Use a soft cloth and a stone-safe gentle cleaner. Blot spills promptly, rinse, and dry. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners.
2. ### Protect the finish.

Use coasters, cutting boards, and trivets for hot cookware.
3. ### Discuss sealing.

Ask which impregnating sealer is appropriate and when to reassess it. Sealing can help with staining but does not stop etching or scratching.

Before you choose

## Good questions. Clear answers.

Start with how you live, the look you love, and the actual stone you are considering.

Can marble be used for a kitchen island?

Yes, if its care needs and changing finish fit your expectations. Discuss acid exposure, scratches, slab selection, and layout with Carlos and your chosen fabricator before deciding.

Does sealing prevent etching?

No. Impregnating sealers can help reduce absorption-related stains, but acids can still react with marble and leave dull marks. Ask for care instructions for the specific stone and finish.

What should I do about lemon juice or vinegar?

Blot spills promptly and clean with a marble-safe, non-acidic cleaner as directed. Do not use vinegar or lemon as cleaners. For existing etching, consult a stone-care professional rather than experimenting with abrasive products.

Is Brown Fantasy the same as quartzite?

Brown Fantasy is often sold as marble or dolomitic stone. Trade names can vary, so confirm the supplier classification and care expectations for the actual slab. Do not assume quartzite-like performance from its name or photograph.

Should I choose honed or polished marble?

Polished finishes have a reflective sheen; honed finishes have a more matte appearance. Both can etch, stain, and scratch. Review finished samples in person and confirm the available finish for your selected slab.

How do I check pricing and availability?

Contact Carlos with your preferred material, approximate project dimensions, location, and timeline. Confirm the actual slabs, thickness, finish, and quote. Photographs do not establish current stock.

Do you fabricate or install countertops?

Carlos provides full slab selection and sales support as an authorized ST Stones sales representative. Your chosen fabricator handles measuring, fabrication, and installation.
